Colleen Ahern is passionate about empowering her students to become confident, capable, independent learners. She has worked with students for over twenty years.
After earning her Masters in Learning Disabilities at Northwestern University, Colleen worked as a diagnostician, elementary school learning specialist, adult educator and private clinician, giving her a wide breadth of knowledge and a strong skill set for providing remediation to students. Colleen currently holds an Illinois Professional License in Learning Disabilities and regularly participates in professional learning opportunities. Most recently, she completed a course reviewing the newest curriculum for the Wilson Reading System 4th Editon.
Utilizing her experience and expertise, Colleen develops lessons that promote and enhance learning by choosing the appropriate methodologies and evidence-based programs to meet the unique needs of each student. Sessions emphasize metacognition, compensatory learning strategies, and executive function skills in conjunction with specialized instruction in specific academic areas, such as reading, writing, and math in an encouraging and supportive environment where student can thrive.
